Don't miss Montsalvatge’s operatic take on the classic story of a mangy feline with magical talents. See the amazing Bunraku puppetry that turns a fairy tale into an afternoon of “tuneful,” “magical,” “exquisite,” and eye-opening opera.

Welcome to another edition of Meet the Artists featuring singers Ginger Costa-Jackson, Karin Mushegain, Andrea Carroll, Craig Verm, Kevin Burdette, and Stefanos Koroneos of Gotham Chamber Opera and Tectonic Theater Project's production of Xavier Montsalvatge's  El gato con botas, presented December 6, 7, 9, 11, 12, 13 & 14, 2014, a co-production with El Museo del Barrio and Works and Process at the Guggenheim.

 

Mezzo-soprano Ginger Costa Jackson's 2014-15 season engagements include the title role in Bizet's Carmen with Vancouver Opera and Opera Grand Rapids, her debut as Rosina in Rossini's Ilbarbiere di Siviglia with Austin Lyric Opera, and Lola in Mascagni's Cavalleria Rusticana at the Metropolitan Opera. Her recent performances include Dorabella in Mozart's Cosi fan Tutte, and Meg Page in Verdi's Falstaff with the Metropolitian Opera; and her Virginia Opera debut as the title role in Carmen. Ms. Costa-Jackson previously appeared as the Cat in Gotham Chamber Opera and Tectonic Theater Project's original production of El gat con botas.

 

 

                                                                             

 

Mezzo-soprano Karin Mushegain's 2014-15 season engagements include her debut as Zerlina in Mozart's Don Giovanni with Austin Lyric Opera and Maddalena in Verdi's Rigoletto with MidAtlantic Opera. Her recent performances include her debut as the title role in Bizet's Carmen with Opera San Luis Obispo, the title role in Rossini's La Cenerentola with Pensacola Opera, and her concert debut with Virginia Symphony in Rossini's Stabat Mater. Ms. Mushegain previously appeared as the Cat in Gotham Chamber Opera and Tectonic Theater Project's original production of  El gato con botas.

 

 

                                                                             

 

 


Soprano Andrea Carroll's 2014-15 season engagements include her debut with Washington National Opera as Rosabla in Catan's Florencia en el Amazonas,Gilda in Verdi's Rigoletto with OperaSanta Barbara , Echo in Richard Strauss's Ariadne auf Naxos with Seattle Operaand Leïla in Bizet's Les pêcheurs de perleswith Utah Opera. In September 2015, she will become a member of the resident ensemble of the Vienna State Opera. Ms. Carroll was a top prize-winner in the 2012 Houston Grand Opera Eleanor McCollum Competition and the 2011 Sullivan Foundation.

                                                                                                

 

 

Baritone Craig Verm's 2014-15 season engagements include George in Floyd's Of Mice and Men with Tulsa Opera, the title role in Robert Aldridge's Elmer Gantrywith Florentine Opera, Marcello in Puccini's La bohème with Nashville Opera and Doug Hanson in the World Premiere of Joby Talbot's Everest with Dallas Opera. Mr. Verm previously appeared as the Miller in Gotham Chamber Opera and Tectonic Theater Project's original production of  El gato con botas.

 

                                                                       

 

 

Bass Kevin Burdette's 2014-15 season engagements include Bartolo in Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia with Opera Philadelphia, Beck Weathers in the world premiere of Joby Talbot's Everest withDallas Opera, T.J. Rigg in Robert Aldridge's Elmer Gantry with Florentine Opera, Leporello in Mozart's Don Giovanni with Boston Lyric Opera; Sulpice in Donizetti's La Fille du régiment and Stobrod/Blind Man in the world premiere of Higdon's Cold Mountain with Sante Fe OperaMr. Burdette previously appeared as the Ogre in Gotham Chamber Opera and Tectonic Theater Project's original production of  El gato con botas.

 

 

                                                                        

 


Baritone Stefanos Koroneos's 2014-15 engagements include Silvio in Puccini's Pagliacci with the Maryland Lyric Opera, the tile role in Donizetti's Don Pasquale wtih Miami Lyric Opera, andconcerts with Die Berliner Philharmonie. His other recent performances include Dulcamara in Donizetti's Elisir d' Amore with New Rochelle Opera, Ford in Verdi's Falstaff with Taconic Opera, Barone in Verdi's La Traviata with the Bolshoi Theater, Alcindoro in Puccini's La Boheme with Den Nye Opera, Mozart's Vespro Solene de Confessor with Teatro Alla Scala, and covering Ford in Falstaff with the London Symphony.
