Gotham Chamber Opera

Where opera gets intimate.

Gotham Chamber Opera has the privilege of engaging some of opera’s rising stars. This summer you can find many of our alumni singing at summer festivals around the country. If you plan to travel this summer here are some festivals where you can see Gotham's singers. 


This season bass Kevin Burdette (Die schwarze spinne, El gato con botas, Dark  Sisters) returns to Sante Fe Opera as Herr van der Puff and Chamberain in a double bill of Mozart’s The Impresario and Stravinsky’s Le Rossignol. Also, behind the scenes you will find the work of costume designer Fabio Toblini (Il sogno di Scipione) and choreographer Sean Curran (El gato con botas). This season at the Glimmerglass Festival you will find young artists tenor Daniel Curran (La descente d’Orphée aux enfers) and bass-baritone Gerard Michael D’Emilio  (La descente d’Orphée aux enfers). Mr. Curran will be singing the role of Gilbert Griffiths in Tobias Picker’s An American Tragedy. Mr. D’Emilio performs the roles of Fisherman in Carousel and Truffaldino in Ariadne auf Naxos. In addition, transforming the artists for all four productions at Glimmerglass is hair and make-up artist Ann Ford-Coates (La descente d’Orphée aux enfers). At the Caramoor Festival, look for bass Jeffrey Beruan (La descente d’Orphée aux enfers) as Sparafucile in a performance of Verdi’s Rigoletto. This production is apart of the Bel Canto at Caramoor series which also features a production of Donizetti's Lucrezia Borgia. For tickets and information visit

Mezzo-soprano Jennifer Rivera (Baden-Baden 1927) and baritone Michael Mayes (Baden-Baden 1927) step out in a production of Jake Heggie’s Dead Man Walking at Central City Opera. At Fire Island Opera Festival soprano Maeve Hoglund (Baden-Baden 1927) will perfom in the American East Coast Premiere of Kurt Weill’s first opera The Protagonist.  The director for this production is choreographer and costume designer Bradon McDonald (Il combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda).
