Last season tenor Daniel Montenegro performed Borsa in Verdi’s Rigoletto with San Francisco Opera, Pong in Turandot for Dallas Opera, Handel’s Messiah with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, Antonio Estévez’s La Cantata criolla with the Phoenix Symphony, and as Giovanni in Daniel Catán’s La hija de Rappaccini in Brooklyn and Los Angeles. During the 2011-2012 season he made his European debut as Mario in Daniel Catán’s Il Postino at Paris’ Théâtre du Châtelet. As a San Francisco Opera Adler Fellow he appeared as Nemorino in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’Amore, Liverotto and Rustighello in Donizetti’s Lucrezia Borgia, Pong in Turandot and Remendado in Bizet’s Carmen. Mr. Montenegro’s other recent roles include Steuermann in Der fliegende Holländer with both Portland and Arizona Operas and the Shepherd in Stravinsky’s Oedipus Rex at the Sydney Festival. This season Mr. Montenegro makes his Washington National Opera debut as Nemorino in Stephen Lawless’ production of L’elisir d’amore. He is a graduate of the San Francisco Merola Opera Program.
